- You are a small team that does not need an on-call rotation, and per-responder pricing adds up fast.
- You want unlimited seats and unlimited monitors for one flat $39 a month.
- You want each domain's certificate, registration and reputation watched daily.
- Incidents should become Linear issues or Trello cards your team already works from.
- You need on-call schedules, escalation policies, phone calls and SMS.
- You need heartbeat monitoring for cron jobs and background workers.
- You want logs and metrics in the same product as uptime.
- You need status page extras like password protection, SSO or IP allowlisting.
Better Stack started as an uptime tool and grew into an observability platform: on-call, phone and SMS escalation, heartbeats, logs and metrics. Barkme stays narrow. It watches whether your sites answer and whether their domains are healthy, and it routes confirmed incidents to where your team already works.
Pricing model
Better Stack's free tier is generous: 10 monitors and heartbeats with a status page. Paid plans are priced per responder, $29 a month billed yearly or $34 monthly, with add-ons for more monitors and more status pages.
Barkme charges per team. Founder is $19 a month with 5 seats, and Pro is $39 with unlimited seats, unlimited monitors and 50 domains. For a team of three to ten people who all want to see incidents, that difference is the main reason teams look at Barkme.
What Barkme adds
Every verified domain gets daily SSL and registration expiry checks, with warnings 30, 14, 7 and 1 day ahead, and a daily reputation check. That check compares your DNS answer across filtering resolvers such as Cloudflare's, Quad9 and AdGuard, and looks the domain up on Spamhaus DBL, SURBL and URIBL. A domain on one of those lists can look perfectly up to an uptime check while a share of your visitors, or your email, never get through.
On Pro, an incident opens a Linear issue or a Trello card, and the recovery adds a comment with the total downtime. Incidents as tickets shows the flow.
What Better Stack adds
On-call schedules and escalation with phone calls and SMS, heartbeat monitors for cron jobs and workers, and logs and telemetry next to the checks. Its status pages also offer paid extras such as password protection, SSO and IP allowlisting. Barkme has none of these.
The short version
Pick Better Stack when the hard part is who gets woken up, in what order, and you want logs in the same place. Pick Barkme when you are a small team that wants confirmed alerts, domain health and status pages at a flat price. Every limit is on the pricing page.
Questions
Switching from Better Stack
- Is Barkme cheaper than Better Stack?
- For small teams, usually. Barkme charges a flat $19 or $39 a month per team, and Pro has unlimited seats. Better Stack charges per responder, from $29 a month each billed yearly, with add-ons for extra monitors and status pages.
- Does Barkme do on-call scheduling?
- No. Barkme confirms an outage and sends it to your channels: email, Slack, Telegram, Linear, Trello or a signed webhook. If you need rotations and phone escalation, Better Stack or a dedicated on-call tool is the right choice.
- Can I use Barkme with an existing on-call tool?
- Yes. The Pro plan's custom webhook posts every incident and expiry alert as signed JSON, which an on-call or automation tool can pick up.
- Are status pages included?
- Every Barkme plan includes status pages. Free has one on a barkme.dev subdomain; Founder and Pro have unlimited pages and custom domains at no extra cost.

Where to go next
Startup engineering teams
For teams of 5 to 15 people without a dedicated SRE. Alerts go to Slack, each incident opens a Linear issue or Trello card, and a signed webhook can send events to your own tools.
Use caseIncidents as tickets
When an incident opens, Barkme creates a Linear issue or Trello card. When the site recovers, it adds the downtime to the same ticket. A signed webhook covers any other tool.
Use caseClient status pages
A public status page for each project, showing what is monitored and any recent incidents. On paid plans it can use the client's own domain.
CompareUptimeRobot alternative
UptimeRobot gives you lots of monitors for little money. Barkme gives you fewer, faster ones per domain, plus daily SSL, registration and blocklist checks on every plan.
CompareOh Dear alternative
Oh Dear checks more things per site, from broken links to cron jobs. Barkme starts free, prices per team rather than per site, and watches each domain's reputation daily.
